Reliant Energy is committed to building a culture of diversity and inclusion. As one of our core values, diversity is more to us than simply words on paper; it is something that we are actively living through our day-to-day interactions and in the way we conduct our business.
Our Diversity Council, comprising leaders from our business units, oversees the various initiatives that span the four central components of our diversity strategy: workforce, supplier diversity, community partnerships and customers. The Council’s charge is to work with management throughout the company to ensure that diversity and inclusion are a part of our everyday work culture.
For our workforce, we have committed to making diversity integral to our people-development strategy. All Reliant employees complete diversity awareness training, while management and leaders participate in diversity awareness workshops designed to promote a more inclusive culture.
But diversity is making an impact on more than just our workforce; it is fundamentally reshaping the way we relate to our vendors, community outreach partners and customers.
Our Supplier Diversity Council ensures that small, minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, small disadvantaged, service-disabled veteran-owned, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Historically Underutilized (HUBZone) business enterprises have open access to contracting opportunities available within the company. In addition, we attend and sponsor several supplier diversity-related conferences, trade shows and networking events across the nation.
With approximately 1.8 million customers nationwide, we take great effort and pride in being a good neighbor and a good corporate citizen. Because our communities are diverse, we have made diversity a key factor in the company’s selection of community outreach partners. We select community partners by considering the reach and impact of each organization in the neighborhoods and customer groups we serve. Together with our employees, we are making a positive impact in these communities.
Finally, diversity is not only making the workplace more effective; it is also making the marketplace more accessible. Our marketing initiatives help build bridges and bring the benefits of deregulation to increasingly diverse customer groups. And by drawing upon the individual differences and viewpoints of a more diverse employee base, we are able to develop better, more innovative products to serve the needs of our existing and potential customers.
At Reliant, we understand that diversity and inclusion are about much more than balancing race and gender. Diversity is an integral part of good corporate citizenship and it’s good for business.
Respectfully,
